  • 2008 Stefania Cabernet Sauvignon Santa Cruz Mountains – USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Santa Cruz Mountains (3/28/2017)
    WIML91

    Tasted double blind.

Garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of blueberry, aspirin, black berries and underbrush. Flavors of berries, cherries and earth. Bright acidity, firm tannin, full bodied. Drink with our or continue to hold.

My guess is this is a 2009 Chateau Figeac from Bordeaux.

What’s interesting to me here is not that I missed the wine by and entire continent. It’s the fact I scored it 91 points double blind and I’ve had this wine before and I scored it 91 points back then as well. (91 points)

  • 2015 Wind Gap Wines Chardonnay Woodruff Vineyard – USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Santa Cruz Mountains (4/7/2017)

Light yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of toast, vanilla and apple pie. Flavors of lemon and creme fraîche. Bright acidity, almost tannic feeling in the mouth from the oak treatment, full bodied. Drink with air or hold.

Perplexing wine. Can’t really make it out nor pin it down.

My guess was this is New World, Australia, Chardonnay, 2015 Clarendon Hills.

Well, at least I got New World right. (90 points)
