Just as a reference point I just made my 1,700th post on this blog right here on this wine. I started this blog in July 2010 as an answer to a request from a few friends who wanted the details of my trip to South Africa for the 2010 World Cup. I felt a blog format was the easiest way to chronicle those travels over a 17 day period. My passions in life have always been travel, wine and food. Three things that go so beautifully together. Thus the story behind this blog.

So many blogs come and go. Most I followed when I started blogging have long since gone dark. I hope to carry the torch for many years to come.

Salut.

Joe

I’m a huge soccer fan having attended events all over the world including three world cups. Bayern Munchen is my favorite club team (I’ve been following them since the 1980s) and Germany has always been my national team being of German descent so naturally when I saw this fantastic article by a fellow blogger I just had to post it. I’ll admit it, I have a bit of a man crush on Manual Neuer myself. Enjoy, courtesy of Oh God, My Wife is German.

Oh God, My Wife Is German.

Manuel Neuer - German National Team Captain and Goalkeeper “There is none like You, O LORD; You are great, and great is Your name in might.” — Jeremiah 10:6 — (Image Credit: Steindy [https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Steindy] Subject to CC 3.0 License.) Before moving to Germany, I really didn’t give a monkey’s nut about soccer. I still don’t, to be perfectly honest with you. But being here for that 2014 FIFA World Cup? That was awesome. My German wife and I watched a bunch of games that season, and I even wrote a couple blog posts about the whole championship experience from my perspective as a clueless outsider:

But what I really noticed was how well the German national team played, well… as a team. Of course you had your big goal-scoring…

Today marks the 6th anniversary of this blog. Wow. 6 years of doing this. I also made my 1,600th post last week. Pretty impressive when you look at all of the blogs I’ve followed over the years and the majority of which I no longer get posts and updates for because they’ve long given up on their blogging efforts. It is tiring at times. Sometimes you simply cannot muster the energy to make a simple post. But the passion is still there after all these years. Hopefully it’ll continue for many more to come.

Happy blogging and reading to all.

No, I’m not going to launch into Adelle’s latest and greatest song. Besides, my voice isn’t what it used to be. Not that it was ever within a fraction of hers.

Anybody notice I was gone? Yep, I haven’t posted in over ten days. All is well though. Just a rather tiring business trip. You may remember a while back I did a brief write-up on the accommodations and restaurants in West Bend, Wisconsin USA. You can read about it here. Well, true to form I returned to the frozen north in the middle of winter for a follow-up visit with my client. Long hard days pursued where I left my corporate provided apartment by 8AM every day and never made it back to the apartment before 10PM on any given evening. So basically it was a solid week of long work days, fast dinners and nothing between but rock solid sleep. That is a long way of saying I’ve had zero time for blogging for the past ten days, even if I was compensated to blog!

So to steal from an Aerosmith song “I’m back in the saddle again”.

2013 in review

Every year WordPress puts together a quick summary of statistics for your blog. I thought I’d share them with the viewing audience.

Joe

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 12,000 times in 2013. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 4 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

I logged into my blog this morning and got this message from WordPress:

Happy Third Anniversary

Happy Third Anniversary

Wow. How time flies when you’re having fun, huh? I’ve been doing this now for three years. So far I’ve made 857 posts to this blog including this one which isn’t quite one per day but it’s close enough to seem like it is. There have been 306 comments posted to date so a little over a third of the time I post something one of my readers is kind enough to let me know I’m not simply talking to the ether every day. So I’d like to extend my thanks to each of my readers for visiting with me on a regular basis. I am truly blessed by your interest in my random musings.
