  • 2006 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon – USA, Washington, Columbia Valley (11/14/2020)
    WIML94

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Followed over 90 minutes then re-corked and re-tasted 24 hours later.

Purple color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of lilacs, currants, white pepper, plums and Kirsch. Flavors of currants, plums, boysenberries and black cherries. Medium acidity, firm to slightly drying tannin, full bodied. Drink now with air or continue to hold.

Nose was showing beautifully at both tastings but the palate was a little tight at the first tasting and tasted better after 24 hours so be sure and decant some if opening now. (94 points)

  • 2002 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon – USA, Washington (5/10/2020)
    WIMLNR

Tasted non blind. Glass decanted 30 minutes before serving. Followed over 3 hours. Never really opened up to reveal much in the way of fruit. Even smelled a little bit like volatile acidity upon opening.

Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of nail polish up front eventually followed by some notes of plums, black berries and black cherries. Flavors of black raspberries, black cherries and a bit of black boysenberry. Medium acidity, integrated tannin, full bodied. Drink now with an extended decant or maybe continue to hold? Saved about 1 glass for a follow up tasting 24 hours later.

Not rated due to the inconclusive results.

  • 2001 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon – USA, Washington (12/14/2019)
    WIML95

Tasted non blind. Opened and decanted two hours before serving. Followed over about four hours.

Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of melted black licorice, white pepper, cassis, plum and violets. Flavors of black berries, black cherries and plums. Medium to bright acidity, firm tannin, full bodied. Drink now with air or continue to hold.

It had a huge fruit filled nose when first opened. Decanted at two hours it took on nice aged Bordeaux like aromas. Even at three hours tannin was still firm. So a delicate balance here. Whether to continue holding or drink now with a decant. I’m leaning towards extending out my remaining four bottles one to two years year longer than they are currently scheduled.

Note there was some sediment upon decanting. (95 points)
