  • 2010 Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée de mon Aïeul – France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (2/23/2018)
    WIMLNR

    Tasted double blind.

Dark garnet color in the glass, fairly clear looking. Nose is a bit muted giving way to aromas of berries and tobacco. Flavors of cherries, berries and pepper. Medium to bright acidity, firm tannin, full bodied. Drink now with air or continue to hold.

My guess was this is a Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa, perhaps the 2010 Shafer. Man, talk about missing the barn during target practice.

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Followed over about two hours.

Garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of saddle leather, tobacco, brown spices and mixed berries. Flavors of tangy raspberries, sweet berries and sweet cherries. Medium to bright acidity, firm tannin, full bodied. Drink with a little air or hold. I’d lean towards drink now. I have a feeling this one won’t really improve with more time in bottle. (91 points)

  • 2003 Domaine Charvin Châteauneuf-du-Pape – France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (11/18/2017)
    WIML90

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Followed over a couple of hours.

Garnet color in the glass with slight brown twinges around the edges, fairly clear otherwise. Nose of dirty diaper, pepper and plums. Flavors of plums and berries. Medium acidity, resolved tannin, medium to full bodied. Drink yesterday. Seemed over the hill slightly or perhaps poorly stored (which I doubt) so no rating. NOTE: Others thought they got TCA, VA or Brett but I got none of that myself.

  • 2001 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape – France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (1/7/2017)
    WIMLNR

Tasted non blind. Tasted from Magnum format.

Garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Slightly vegetal nose with some added notes of smoke and black berries. Seems muted, likely very mildly tainted with TCA. Tasted OK with some basic black berries and cherries on the palate. Yeah, I know…never taste a TCA tainted wine. Bright acidity, medium tannin, full bodied. Not rated for obvious reasons but I sure did want it to be pristine. (NR/flawed)
