  • 2006 Betts & Scholl Shiraz Black Betty – Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley (2/6/2019)
    WIMLNR

Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose was a bit vegetal with some roasted meat and a hint of black fruit. Flavors or mint, berries and raspberries. Medium acidity, medium tannin, medium bodied. Drink now. Couldn’t make up my mind if it was over the hill, subjected to poor provenance or simply not that good so no rating.

  • 2003 Shirvington Shiraz – Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale (1/23/2017)
    WIML95

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Followed over about two hours.

Folks, this is proof of that statement “There are no great wines, just great bottles”. This bottle was singing above and beyond my wildest dreams. Purple color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Absolutely stunning nose of black raspberry jam, violets, smoke, meat, dark plums and black cherries. Palate wasn’t as impressive as the nose but still quite impressive with rich, expressive flavors of black raspberries, juicy plums, boysenberry jam and black cherries framed over a mineral streak underneath. Medium acidity, medium tannin, full bodied. Drink now. Impressive. (95 points)
